Matt and I are hell bent on creating a beach-loving child. Considering our individual love for the beach and all it brings--this should be an easy task. But speaking from experience...children do not always do and want what their parents want them to do and want. For instance, my parents worked REALLY hard at selling their alma mater where they met and fell in love, Miami University. And to be honest Miami is a really great school with tons to offer. They had three chances of one of their kids going there and ended up 0 for 3. Tragic.
Matt and I fell in love with the beach looooong ago...and would be more than devastated if our baby doesn't feel the same way. Me being from Ohio I always felt that I was born in the wrong state--destined to be nearer to the water. It wasn't until my tumultuous year after college that I decided to uproot to VaBeach and haven't looked back since. Matt's story is similar--he lived in Lexington, Va and even though he had rivers--it wasn't quite enough. A year before me he moved to VaBeach and has also never looked back. We met my second week there and our love story began. Much to our parent's dismay...we will never move any further west or north than our current location...and a beach is a must. So Ohio and western Va is definitely out.
Being the life-long swimmer that I am--my plan is to not only force the beach upon my child but also dunk him/her in water the earliest possible. Each summer off will consist of not only weeks worth of beach vacations but daily beach visits if at all possible. On Matt's end--our child will most likely be accompanying him on several boat trips, spear gun in hand with his daddy hoping to teach him/her his love for free diving and spearfishing. So to sum it all up--we don't really care what sports this kid plays but it BETTER love the ocean...or else we might have to trade.
We are off to a good start with inciting the love of beach in our unborn child. This is the second beach vaca it's been on in utero and we aren't even done yet. My belly is tan and hopefully the baby is loving the sun rays and sound of the waves crashing. It's momma and daddy sure do!
